10 Day South of Italy Itinerary: Coastal Bliss Exploring Tropea, Puglia and the Amalfi Coast

Welcome to the beautiful South of Italy! With its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and delicious cuisine, it is a must-visit destination for any traveler. In this 10-day itinerary, we will explore some of the best cities and attractions the region has to offer.


Transportation: The best way to travel between cities is by car. Renting a car will allow you to explore the region at your own pace and visit some of the more off-the-beaten-path destinations that are not accessible by public transportation. Avoid driving through the city centres during the peak season to avoid the hustle and bustle


Day 1-3: Tropea

Our journey begins in Tropea, a charming town located on the picturesque Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. Take a stroll along the sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, marvel at the stunning views from the clifftop Cathedral, and visit the ancient monastery of Santa Maria dell'Isola. Don't forget to sample the local delicacies, including spicy 'nduja sausage and sweet red onions, both of which are famous throughout the region.

  • Tropea to Ostuni: about 6-7 hours by car


Day 4-5: Alberobello and Ostuni

After three days in Tropea, it's time to head north to Puglia! First sto, Alberobello! Begin your day exploring Alberobello, known for its iconic trulli houses. These cone-shaped structures, made of local limestone. Take a stroll through the narrow streets and admire the charming architecture.


Only half an hour drive away is the beautiful city of Ostuni, a stunning hilltop town known as the "White City" for its whitewashed buildings. Spend your days exploring the charming old town, with its narrow alleyways and stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Don't miss the chance to visit the nearby towns of Martina Franca and Cisternino, both of which are famous for their beautiful architecture and delicious cuisine.

  • Ostuni to Otranto: about 1.5-2 hours


Day 6-7: Otranto and Surrounds

From Ostuni, it's time to head further east to the stunning town of Otranto, located on the Adriatic coast of Salento. Spend your days exploring the charming old town, with its stunning cathedral and beautiful beaches. Don't miss the chance to visit the nearby town of Lecce, known as the "Florence of the South" for its stunning Baroque architecture.

  • Otranto to Sorrento: about 6-7 hours


Day 8-10: Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast

No trip to the South of Italy is complete without a visit to the stunning Amalfi Coast, with its picturesque towns and stunning coastline. Spend your days exploring the charming town of Sorrento, with its beautiful old town and stunning views over the Bay of Naples. Don't miss the chance to take a boat trip along the coast, visiting the picturesque towns of Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, all of which are famous for their stunning views and delicious cuisine.

Best time to go: The best time to visit the South of Italy is from late spring to early autumn, when the weather is warm and sunny, and the sea is perfect for swimming. Avoid the peak season in July and August, when the crowds are at their highest and prices are the most expensive.
