10 Day Mexico Itinerary : Epic Adventure from Beaches to Ruins

Welcome to Mexico! Today, I'm excited to share with you a 10-night itinerary for an unforgettable trip to Mexico. With its stunning beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture, Mexico is a destination that truly has something for everyone.


Day 1-3: Arriving in Cancun

Start your journey in Cancun, one of the most popular destinations in Mexico. From the airport, take a taxi or shuttle to your hotel in Cancun. The travel time will depend on your hotel's location, but it generally takes around 20-30 minutes to reach the hotel zone. Spend your first few days soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches, exploring the nightlife, and indulging in some delicious Mexican cuisine. Some great restaurants to check out include La Parrilla, a popular spot for authentic tacos, and La Habichuela, a romantic restaurant with a lush garden setting.


Day 4: Discover the Mayan Ruins

Take a day trip to Chichen Itza, one of the most famous and well-preserved Mayan ruins in Mexico. Explore the ancient temples and pyramids, learn about the fascinating history of the Mayan civilization, and marvel at the stunning architecture. Entrance fees start at around $26 per person.


Day 5-6: Relax in Tulum

To get to Tulum from Cancun, you can either rent a car, take a bus or shuttle, or hire a private transfer. The travel time is approximately 1.5 hours. Tulum is a beautiful coastal town known for its stunning beaches and relaxed vibe. Spend a couple of days here, soaking up the sun, snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, and visiting the nearby Tulum Ruins, a Mayan archaeological site perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean. For some delicious food, check out Hartwood, a popular restaurant serving up fresh, locally sourced cuisine.


Day 7: Visit Merida

To get from Tulum to Merida, you can take a bus or shuttle, which takes approximately 4 hours. It's recommended to take the ADO bus, which is a comfortable and affordable option.

Take a trip to Merida, the capital of the Yucatan state. This colonial city is known for its stunning architecture, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine. Explore the city's colorful streets, visit the local markets, and indulge in some authentic Yucatecan dishes. For a unique dining experience, check out Apoala, a restaurant specializing in traditional Oaxacan cuisine.


Day 8-9: Explore the Riviera Maya

To get from Merida to the Riviera Maya, you can take a bus or shuttle, which takes approximately 4-5 hours. The Riviera Maya is a stunning stretch of coastline that boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. Spend a couple of days here, exploring the towns of Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and snorkeling in the world-famous coral reefs. For a delicious meal with a view, check out Alux, a restaurant set in a cave. Expect to spend around $50-$100 for a meal for two.


Day 10: Discover Mexico City

To get to Mexico City from the Riviera Maya, you can fly from Cancun International Airport to Mexico City International Airport, which takes approximately 2 hours. End your trip in Mexico City, the vibrant capital of Mexico. Explore the historic center, visit the world-famous National Museum of Anthropology, and indulge in some of the best food in the country. Make sure to visit the nearby ancient ruins of Teotihuacan, known for its impressive pyramids and stunning architecture. For some delicious Mexican cuisine, check out El Cardenal, a popular spot for breakfast and brunch.
